3 California visitors fined thousands after illegal Wyoming fishing trip
Briefly

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department fined three California anglers for exceeding fish possession limits after discovering 32 vacuum-sealed trout in a local resident's freezer. The trout were caught on the North Platte River, where regulations allow only three trout per day, with one exceeding 16 inches. Despite claiming confusion over the rules, witnesses stated the anglers were informed. A county judge imposed a fine of $2,640 and the anglers lost their fishing privileges in Wyoming and 48 other states, highlighting strict enforcement of fishing regulations to protect local trout populations.
The current special regulation on North Platte River in Saratoga helps to maintain a thriving wild brown trout population and its blue-ribbon classification.
Although the anglers claimed confusion regarding possession limits, multiple witnesses reported they were informed of the regulations.
The anglers were issued citations, and later pleaded guilty during a county court proceeding on Dec. 4.
A county judge fined them a combined total of $2,640: $1,140 in fines and $1,500 in restitution.
