Several recent wolf sightings in the Hope Valley area have been reported. One account described four wolves sighted by members of the public, leading officials to monitor the area.
According to Peter Tira of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, "We will continue to monitor the area and follow-up on any more reports," as they take the sightings seriously.
The gray wolf, an endangered species, is protected under both California and Federal Endangered Species Acts, reflecting its historic presence in the region.
Wolves were native to California but disappeared by the 1920s. Their return began in 2011 with the presence of wolf OR-7, marking a significant recovery.
