His owner had earlier evacuated, losing contact with Luigi and his brother Mario but hoped for their safety. Once permitted to return, the family discovered Luigi injured but alive beneath unscathed patio furniture, with burnt paws and singed whiskers. He is currently receiving treatment at Pasadena Humane shelter, where staff express hope amid devastating losses from the fires.

When they did, they discovered Luigi taking shelter underneath patio furniture that had somehow been untouched by the fire. All four of his paws were burnt, his whiskers were singed, and he was covered in debris - but he had survived.
