Two individuals were critically injured due to fireworks explosions in a Hayward home on Thursday. Officers responded to a 911 call about a house fire and found an adult male injured by the fireworks. A second explosion occurred while they were on-site, prompting an evacuation. Around 12:18 pm on Thursday, two people were critically injured due to fireworks explosions inside a home on the 27000 block of Mandarin Avenue in Hayward.
After responding to a house fire, Hayward Police found an adult male with injuries from a fireworks explosion, followed by a second explosion on the scene.
Firefighters contained the fire resulting from the explosions to a garage, while preliminary findings suggested illegal fireworks manufacturing may have occurred at the residence.
Illegal fireworks continue to be a widespread issue during July Fourth celebrations in the Bay Area, fueled by easy access from nearby Nevada.
