In striking before-and-after photos, a parched Lake Shasta is transformed
Briefly

Lake Shasta and Lake Oroville, the state's largest reservoirs, have refilled significantly after consecutive wet winters, reaching historical capacity levels. The refilling was aided by releasing excess water in preparation for more storm water.
A series of winter storms in late 2023 and early 2024, along with releasing excess water from Lake Shasta by officials, contributed to the refilling of reservoirs. Lake Oroville, the second-biggest reservoir, also saw water releases but reached 128% of its historical capacity in early May.
