Interstate 5 in California closed at Grapevine due to Hughes Fire, forcing detours

Due to the Hughes Fire, Interstate 5 is officially closed through the Grapevine, impacting travelers heading to Southern California. Caltrans announced that both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 are shut down, with closures at State Route 126 and Grapevine Road. As a result, motorists are advised to use various alternate routes, including Highway 166 west to Highway 101 or heading east on Highway 58 towards Tehachapi, which may see increased traffic as a result.
Caltrans posted on social media around 3 p.m., "All lanes of northbound & southbound I-5 are CLOSED through the Grapevine due to the Hughes Fire."
Caltrans advised motorists to take Highway 166 to Highway 101 heading west or Highway 58 towards Tehachapi to the east as alternate routes.
