Rescuers in California undertook a challenging 8-mile journey in treacherous weather to rescue a hypothermic hiker who sent an SOS from Andrew Molera State Park. Despite facing severe atmospheric conditions, including wind and rain, the Monterey County Search and Rescue team persevered. They were ultimately able to locate the hiker hours later and transport them safely to an awaiting ambulance. Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto emphasized the importance of proper preparation and awareness of weather conditions for hikers in her statements.
"Always carry proper supplies and utilize appropriate clothing and consider weather conditions. The weather conditions on February 13th were not favorable for trekking."
