California has postponed the launch of insurance coverage for in vitro fertilization and other infertility treatments to January 1, 2026. New laws effective July 1 include changes to workplace protections for household domestic workers, updated requirements for short-term rental accommodations related to cleaning charges, and modifications to the CARE Court program that ensure original petitioners are kept informed on the status of their cases. Additionally, alcohol-serving establishments must now provide drink lids upon customer requests, potentially for a small fee.
Establishments with a 'Type 48' license to serve beer, wine or distilled spirits must now provide a lid with a customer's drink upon request. The establishment may charge a 'reasonable' fee for the lid.
An update to the CARE Court program now requires courts to keep the original petitioner updated on proceedings, including if a case is dismissed or postponed.
