Wildfire near Yosemite National Park tears through historic Gold Rush town

A wildfire ripped through the historic Gold Rush town of Chinese Camp, affecting multiple structures and threatening a post office built in 1854. The 6-5 Fire is part of the TCU September Lightning Complex and has burned nearly 12,000 acres across Calaveras and Tuolumne counties with no containment. Cal Fire deployed 634 personnel to battle the blaze. Dry thunderstorms and likely lightning strikes are under investigation as ignition sources while warming weather is expected. Multiple evacuation orders are in effect, residents are urged to be ready to evacuate, and information is available on the Cal Fire website.
