Lawsuit against Trump administration over traveller registration rule could mean reprieve for snowbirds | CBC News
Briefly

Immigration advocates are taking legal action against the Trump administration's new registration requirement for non-U.S. citizens staying over 29 days. The American Immigration Council argues that the rule, affecting millions including many Canadians, was enacted without public consultation and is unclear and arbitrary. They filed a lawsuit to prevent the regulation's implementation set for April 11. Advocates and concerned Canadians express feelings of being unfairly targeted and express worry regarding its implications on freedoms and rights.
"We feel strongly that this rule was issued in an improper and illegal way," said Michelle Lapointe, legal director at the American Immigration Council. "What they're rolling out is a system that is arbitrary, it's confusing, it doesn't make sense."
"I feel as if we are being targeted as Canadians," said Rena Hans of Toronto, who owns a condo in Florida. "This is giving me kind of like, a little bit of a totalitarian vibe."
