A new agreement among most Canadian provinces allows for the free flow of alcohol across the country, coinciding with U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Internal Trade Minister Anita Anand emphasized the importance of this change, which aims to inject $200 billion into Canada’s economy. All provinces, except P.E.I. and Newfoundland and Labrador, have committed to dismantling barriers that hinder alcohol sales. This initiative also extends to recognizing professional credentials across provinces, showcasing a unified effort to bolster Canadian trade while responding to external pressures.
This is unprecedented action to reduce trade barriers in Canada, said Internal Trade Minister Anita Anand. This is a pivotal moment for Canada to take bold and united action.
Buying B.C. wine in Ottawa is going to become a reality because we are going to see trade barriers come down in Canada, stated Anand.
The federal, provincial and territorial governments are also working toward recognizing certified professionals regardless of where they received their credentials in Canada.
The first ministers directed the committee on Internal Trade to develop a Canada-wide credential recognition plan by June 1, aiming to eliminate this decades-old issue.
