Ontario Premier Doug Ford wants separate U.S., Mexico trade deals 'now,' not in 2026 | CBC News

Ontario Premier Doug Ford insists on negotiating bilateral trade deals with the U.S. and Mexico immediately rather than waiting until 2026, asserting that Mexico has not addressed concerns over Chinese investments.
During a press conference, Ford emphasized that the provinces are unified in favoring immediate bilateral agreements, noting, 'All 13 premiers support pushing the federal government to act now rather than waiting for the trilateral review.'
After discussions with his fellow premiers, Ford reiterated, 'We need to move on and establish agreements with the U.S., and if Mexico isn't on board, we'll proceed separately.'
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith expressed alignment with Ford's strategy, stating, 'If Mexico continues to overlook our concerns about Chinese products, I'm in full agreement with Doug on excluding them from future trade agreements.'
