OPP will get major detachment at Ontario Place as officers prepare to patrol Gardiner, DVP | CBC News
"Currently, Toronto police patrol the major highways that cut through the city. Toronto chief Myron Demkiw said his officers will still be responsible for non-traffic related criminal matters on the highways."
The Ontario government plans to establish a new OPP detachment at Ontario Place, which will patrol the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway. The detachment will be built on the east island of Ontario Place and will include a helicopter pad, a potential marine unit, and the service's first mounted unit. The Ford government anticipates that the redeveloped Ontario Place will attract six million visitors annually. Toronto police will continue to handle non-traffic related criminal matters on the highways.
