Petrol and diesel prices rise for fourth month in a row
Briefly

In Ireland, rising crude-oil prices and the weakening euro against the dollar are contributing significantly to increased diesel and petrol prices. Currently, diesel averages €1.77 per litre, up over 11c since October, while petrol has risen to €1.80 per litre. Legislation requiring a higher proportion of biofuels in these fuels is a critical factor, with estimates suggesting that recent price hikes could add 15c to petrol and 12c to diesel. Although EV costs have seen a slight decline, the increase in motor fuel prices continues to impact consumers.
The average cost of diesel is now €1.77 a litre, up more than 11c since last October, influenced by rising crude-oil prices and biofuel legislation.
Changes in the biofuel mix this year have led to increased motor fuel costs, adding approximately 15c to petrol and 12c to diesel prices.
