The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has put forward a proposal for a two-week suspension of a potential strike to analyze Canada Post's latest offer. This offer includes a 13.59% wage increase over four years and enhancements to personal and disability benefits. Canada Post has amended its proposal by withdrawing previous controversial changes while introducing changes aimed at flexibility to address financial issues. CUPW negotiator Jim Gallant stressed the need for offers to truly reflect workers' requirements and community needs as they navigate the negotiation process, hoping for substantive improvements.
Given the delay, we hope that these offers will be substantive and respect the needs of workers as well as the communities we serve.
The corporation proposed 'important changes to its delivery model' to increase flexibility and help Canada Post address its financial challenges.
