The Biden administration has begun sending termination notices to tens of thousands of immigrants, signaling a shift toward revoking legal statuses rather than mass deportations. Many who applied using the CBP One app, meant to streamline border entry, are now being told to leave immediately, marking them as targets for potential deportation. This development contradicts President Trump's earlier promises of focusing on criminal migrants, as even immigration lawyers report receiving these notices due to possible errors. This change raises concerns about the vulnerability of lawful immigrants in the current landscape.
"They believed they were following the right path by using the government-provided app," said Joy Tucker, board chair of Kaleidoscope Humanitarian Aid, a nonprofit organization in Tucson, Arizona.
The termination notices, which started being delivered electronically last week, were more indication that migrants... may be among the most vulnerable now as President Trump seeks to make good on his campaign promise of mass deportations.
Many migrants who entered the country using the CBP One app... have been told their legal status would end seven days after the date on their notice.
Despite a few high-profile roundups... the new wave of notices indicates that the bulk of "removals" by the administration is likely to come from the revocation of immigrants' legal status.
