The Toronto Blue Jays are contending for a playoff spot and a division title for the first time in a decade. The Toronto Zoo named two Scottish Highland cows Blue and Jay to show support for the team, displaying jerseys with the number 25 during the unveiling. Blue and Jay are half brothers who have been at the zoo for over a month. The zoo attracted 1.3 million visitors in 2023. CEO Dolf DeJong connected baseball enthusiasm with conservation, and the zoo indicated fans may have future opportunities to see the animals up close while emphasizing community belonging.
"Conservation is a team sport," says DeJong, "We need more players and now are hoping that naming these two animals after our beloved Blue Jays provides us with another way to get the community excited about two of our city's great passions - baseball and conservation."
