CHP targets video game-styled' driving with stealthy cruisers
Briefly

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is introducing stealthy Dodge Durango patrol cars to reduce reckless driving across the state. These vehicles, designed to blend into traffic, allow officers to monitor and intervene in dangerous driving behaviors without immediate detection. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee emphasizes the vehicles' role in enhancing road safety, as California experiences over 390,000 crashes annually. With plans to expand from 25 to 100 cruisers, the initiative aims to curb speeding—responsible for 30% of crashes—and restore safety on California roads. Drivers are urged to follow speed limits and drive responsibly.
The new vehicles give our officers an important advantage, allowing us to identify and stop drivers who are putting others at risk, said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee.
The CHP noted that speed is a factor in 30% of all crashes and a major contributor to fatalities and injuries, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement.
Our goal remains the same: reduce injuries, prevent fatalities and restore a sense of safety on California's roadways, emphasized a CHP news release.
The Dodge Durangos, with ordinary paint schemes, are designed to blend into traffic and help enforce road rules without being detected right away.
