"Doug Field, who left Apple five years ago to helm Ford's multibillion-dollar bet on electric vehicles and software, is stepping down next month. Replacing him will be Alan Clarke, the ex-Tesla engineer who now leads Ford's California-based skunkworks lab."
"The shake-up comes less five months after Ford announced a massive $19.5 billion writedown on its EV investment, as well as the discontinuation of several electric models, including the F-150 Lightning pickup truck."
"Ford also said it was creating a new 'end-to-end organization' called Product Creation and Integration, with the aim to leverage its existing vehicle platforms for 'digital growth.'"
Doug Field, who led Ford's electric vehicle and software initiatives, is resigning next month. Alan Clarke, a former Tesla engineer, will take over as vice president of advanced development projects. This leadership change follows Ford's $19.5 billion writedown on EV investments and the cancellation of several electric models. Ford plans to focus on hybrids and its existing gas-powered vehicles while developing a Universal Electric Vehicle platform, starting with a $30,000 midsize truck in 2027. A new organization will also be created to enhance digital growth.
