Girl (6) killed in incident involving truck while cycling in Galway

A tragic incident occurred in Galway where a 6-year-old female pedestrian cyclist was fatally injured during a collision with a heavy goods vehicle. The accident happened at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn around midday. The truck driver, in his 30s, escaped uninjured. Authorities closed the road for a forensic investigation. Gardaí are actively seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage from anyone who was in the vicinity during the incident to assist in ongoing investigations.
"The collision involved a female juvenile pedal cyclist and a heavy goods vehicle at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn," a Garda spokesperson said.
"The female pedal cyclist, aged 6 years, was fatally injured as a result of the collision. Her body was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway and a post mortem will take place in due course."
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They have also appealed for camera footage (including dash-cam) from anyone who was travelling in the area of the Headford Road (N84) between Coolough Road/Headford Road junction and the entrance to Tirellan Heights/Headford Road junction in Galway city between 11.45am and 12.15pm."
"The male driver of the truck, aged in his 30s was uninjured. The road was closed and a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators has taken place."
