Jeep's parent company announces 'hands free, eyes off' driving feature
Briefly

Stellantis has introduced its first 'hands free, eyes off' partial autonomous driving feature called STLA AutoDrive, aimed at enhancing driver convenience during stop-and-go traffic. Despite being fully developed, its launch is delayed due to market and regulatory challenges. The feature aligns with the Society for Automotive Engineers' Level 3 guidelines, allowing drivers to disengage from constant attention, but critics express concerns about safety. Level 3+ can operate in various conditions including nighttime and poor weather, although limitations are expected.
The technology is fully developed and ready for deployment. However, the current market for Level 3 autonomous driving is very limited.
STLA AutoDrive will cover a range of driver assist situations, from hands-on Level 2 driving, to hands-off, eyes-off Level 3+.
