Michigan Senator Seeks Total Chinese Car Ban
Briefly

Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan has introduced the Connected Vehicle National Security Review Act, aimed at banning Chinese-made vehicles from the U.S. market. Under her legislation, a national security review process would be established for Chinese connected cars and car parts, even those made in other countries. Slotkin emphasized the threat posed by these cars, stating they could gather sensitive data and intelligence on Americans. She acknowledged the potential economic impact on the Michigan auto industry if Chinese vehicles were allowed to compete due to China's advanced automotive technology and subsidies.
"I will lay down on the border to keep Chinese vehicles from entering the U.S. market," Slotkin said in a statement.
"Chinese vehicles could collect huge amounts of data on America and Americans, which poses a significant national security threat," Slotkin said.
Slotkin acknowledged that 'Michigan's auto industry and auto jobs' are also at stake if those vehicles were allowed to compete in the U.S.
Chinese automakers are widely considered to be well ahead of those from Western and other Asian countries due to various competitive advantages.
