Trump has thrown a wrench into a national EV charging program
Briefly

A recent directive from the Trump administration has paused electric vehicle (EV) charging projects funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which was established under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The Federal Highway Administration's letter to state directors suspends the approval of State Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment plans, leaving nearly 90% of the $5 billion funding in limbo. Although $400 million of the funds may still be utilized, many states, including Republican-led Alabama, are already delaying project implementations, significantly impacting planned EV infrastructure expansions.
'Effective immediately, no new obligations may occur under the NEVI Formula Program until the updated final NEVI Formula Program Guidance is issued and new State plans are submitted and approved.'
'A DOT spokesman said states were free to use a small portion of the funding—about $400 million—because that was money the states had already obligated, or awarded to subcontractors.'
