Nikita Parris, an FA Cup Winner with United who departed in the summer for the south coast, grabbed a second-half equalizer for the Seagulls.
It was a brilliant start to the match, but United failed to keep up the scoring form, thanks to former United keeper, Sophie Baggaley, who made some nice saves to deny Miyazawa and Rachel Williams.
Early in the second half Brighton got just the right person in position to make a difference, with Parris diving in to head a well-struck ball past Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
United had the chances to get back in front... the best being from Williams volleying toward the bottom left corner. Baggaley had to dive to push the ball wide in the dying minutes.
