Chicago's Hard Rock Cafe and Its Giant Flying V Guitar Will Retire in March
Briefly

After nearly 40 years of operation in downtown Chicago, the Hard Rock Cafe is set to close its doors permanently on March 29. This historic location, established in 1986, has been a staple in the city’s dining scene and contributed to the development of River North as a nightlife destination. Despite the closure, the Hard Rock brand continues elsewhere, with casino locations in Rockford and Gary, Indiana remaining operational. Employees of the cafe will receive support and may apply for other positions within the company. The cafe is known for its extensive music memorabilia collection.
Hard Rock has enjoyed serving the Windy City community for nearly 40 years and playing a role in the city's celebrated dining culture.
At the time, its neighbors included other touristy relics like Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, and the Rock 'N Roll McDonald's.
Fans in the '80s and '90s would collect Hard Rock T-shirts, showing off the cities they had visited.
Hard Rock Cafe became famous for its vast collection of music memorabilia, acquired over the decades, much of which was donated by the artists themselves.
