On Wednesday afternoon, three Senn High School students aged 15 to 16 were shot in Edgewater, with one dying later in the hospital. The shooting occurred near the school, igniting widespread concern over youth violence in Chicago. The city’s officials, including Superintendent Larry Snelling and Mayor Brandon Johnson, condemned the act and prioritized ending violence against young people. The incident follows another recent shooting of two teens, underscoring the urgency of addressing this escalating crisis.
These tragic shootings happen too often. The loss of life is horrific under all circumstances but it is especially harsh when our young people are targeted.
Our city is hurting. We must use the full force of government to end violence against young people and ensure their safety.
