In Chicago, hundreds protested against former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who is wanted by international authorities for crimes against humanity. The protest, featuring speakers and significant participation from various activist groups, denounced Gallant's invitation to speak at Anshe Emet synagogue. Protesters condemned his actions in Gaza and demanded accountability, referencing the International Criminal Court's warrant. Rabbi Brant Rosen emphasized the moral implications of hosting Gallant, underscoring the community's outrage at the perceived normalization of war crimes.
I have been a congregant here for six years. Last week, I found out that they would be inviting Yoav Gallant to speak here. I was horrified and I was disgusted.
War criminals need to be held to justice. Hosting one in a synagogue is an affront to Palestinians and a disgrace to the Jewish community.
