"Implementing a Coffeehouse Code of Conduct is something most retailers already have and is a practical step that helps us prioritize our paying customers who want to sit and enjoy our cafés or need to use the restroom during their visit," Starbucks' representative Jaci Anderson told BI in an emailed statement.
Starting January 27, Starbucks will extend its free refills policy to non-rewards members as long as they use reusable cups and order in-store.
The new policy reverses Starbucks' previous open-door policy, limiting access to bathrooms and indoor spaces to paying customers, staff, and their guests.
The changes to the refills and code of conduct are part of a shift under new CEO Brian Niccol, aimed at enhancing customer experience.
