Wildlife experts in Michigan successfully rescued a black bear that had survived for two years with a plastic lid stuck around its neck. The bear first appeared on a trail camera in 2023 as a cub. Despite having a scarred and hairless neck from the lid, officials were surprised by its relatively good health. The Department of Natural Resources set a trap to capture the bear, and after anesthetizing it, they removed the lid. The bear then woke up and safely wandered away, demonstrating adaptability in the face of challenges.
Cody Norton noted, "The bear was in much better condition than we expected it to be," despite the difficult circumstances it endured with the lid around its neck.
Norton expressed surprise at the bear's resilience, stating, "We were pleasantly surprised. It was still able to make a living like a pretty typical bear."
