The Cubs ended a 10-game losing streak with a 10-4 road win over the Pirates. Chicago scored first in the opening inning on Ian Happ’s two-run single and added another run in the second on Nico Hoerner’s RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Jameson Taillon allowed a game-tying three-run homer to Brandon Lowe in the third, and Konnor Griffin later hit a solo shot to even the score. The Cubs broke the game open in the seventh with two home runs off the Pirates’ bullpen, including a three-run blast by Happ and a two-run homer by Michael Conforto. Michael Busch added an RBI single, and the bullpen held the lead.
"The Cubs finally busted things open against the Pirates' bullpen in the top of the 7th with a pair of home runs. Happ blasted a go-ahead three-run shot off of Yohan Ramirez, then pinch-hitter Michael Conforto had a two-run jack against Justin Lawrence to make it 9-4. Michael Busch would add one more on an RBI single to complete the six-run inning. It was smooth sailing after that for the Cubs, who finished off the much-needed 10-4 win with very little drama."
"Chicago rallied in the opening inning when Ian Happ had a two-run single against starter Bubba Chandler to give them a 2-0 lead. Nico Hoerner added an RBI single in the top of the 2nd to increase the advantage to 3-0. Jameson Taillon had his familiar bugaboo in the bottom of the 3rd when he gave up a game-tying three-run homer to Brandon Lowe. The North Siders went back ahead on an RBI double by Pete Crow-Armstrong in the 4th, but Konnor Griffin hit a solo shot to even things up again in the bottom half."
"Key Moment Power had been in short supply for the Cubs during the current losing skid, so getting two home runs in the 7th inning was massive. The hitters finally showed up and the bullpen did a decent job holding the fort. Stats That Matter The home runs are out of control for Taillon this season: 5 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 4 K, and 2 BB. Happ badly needed to have a 5-RBI game and so did his team. Dansby Swanson got on base three times, including a double."
