During a recent White Sox game, an unexpected downpour, including hail and high winds, caught the grounds crew off guard. Despite being prepared for rain, the rapid onset prevented them from adequately covering the infield, leading to significant water accumulation. Head groundskeeper Roger Bossard noted that this incidence, second only to the infamous Disco Demolition event, posed unique challenges. The crew worked diligently but faced unanticipated difficulties. Bossard expressed pride in their efforts, still advocating for the game’s continuation with MLB despite the complications introduced by the severe weather.
''It just came on so fast, the high winds and then the hail,'' White Sox head groundskeeper Roger Bossard told a pool reporter.
''I'm proud of my crew and the job they did. But the hail was really surprising. You get hail and 35 mph winds.''
''I had a lot of our guys who were on the other end, and for some reason the wind got underneath and they pulled the wrong part of the tarp.''
''I called MLB and told them: 'I need a shot. Give me my chance,'
