The Chicago White Sox missed out on an opportunity to bring back Jose Quintana on the cheap
Briefly

The Chicago White Sox opted against re-signing former All-Star pitcher Jose Quintana, who recently joined the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite his past success with the White Sox and a favorable financial situation for the team, their decision to cut payroll led to Quintana's departure. The White Sox could have signed him for less than what they currently pay another pitcher. His absence will be felt as the team also searches for a lefty to replace Garrett Crochet, adding to their challenges during a financially tight season.
Even though it made a lot of sense for Quintana to come back to the White Sox... the dream of his triumphant return officially ended yesterday when Quintana signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Sox could have had Quintana for $750k less... maybe owner Jerry Reindsorf could have figuratively gone through his couch cushions to find the extra $4.25 million.
The Sox were going to need a lefty to replace ace Garrett Crochet... having Quintana and Perez would have helped make up that difference.
Instead, the Sox are going to have to use weak contact and funky deliveries to get outs because it seems that is more cost effective.
