The Chicago White Sox designated shortstop Jacob Amaya for assignment after a disappointing season, where he batted just .097. Amaya, who had proven himself unfit for the major leagues, left after 44 games and was replaced by Vinny Capra, claimed off waivers from the Brewers. Capra started poorly as well, and there are doubts about his long-term viability on the roster. Fans are hopeful for any improvement but remain skeptical given both playersâ track records.
Amaya inexplicably made the White Sox Opening Day roster as the starting shortstop and stuck around for nearly two months while batting .097.
Capra forced his way onto the Brewers' Opening Day roster with a red hot Spring Training at the plate.
Neither guy belongs on a 26-man roster and before long, Capra will be gone.
For now, at least it's a fresh face. I can trick myself into believing he'll be better than Amaya for the next week or so.
