He was a 15th round draft pick in 2012 and after six years in the minor leagues, he made his debut with Toronto on June 26, 2018 and in one of the better debuts in Blue Jays history, he went six innings, struck out three and allowed just two earned runs on six hits. Borucki started 17 games in total for the Blue Jays in that 2018 season, finishing with a 1.5 bWAR and looked like he might turn into a decent fourth or fifth starter.
The New Orleans Saints have released safety J.T.Gray, head coach Kellen Moore said on Monday. Gray, who joined the Saints in 2018 as an undrafted rookie free agent, was a special teams standout and team captain. He has been a first-team All-Pro Selection twice and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 as a special teamer.
The Braves are expected to activate ace lefty Chris Sale from the 60-day IL this weekend. The veteran southpaw has been sidelined since June due to a fracture in his ribcage, but prior to that he had been firmly in the conversation to win a second consecutive NL Cy Young award with a 2.52 ERA, a 2.69 FIP, and a 30.8% strikeout rate.
MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers placed All-Star closer Trevor Megill on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with a right flexor strain in his right arm and signed right-hander Erick Fedde, who joins his third organization this season. Megill, 31, is 5-3 with a 2.54 ERA and 30 saves in 44 appearances while striking out 58 batters over 46 innings. He has blown three of his last four save opportunities.
The Patriots claimed former New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito off waivers, and plan to release veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on Wednesday after sources tell ESPN talks to trade him didn't come to fruition. DeVito, who was waived by the Giants on Tuesday, will become the third quarterback on the Patriots' 53-man roster behind starter Drake Maye and backup Joshua Dobbs.
Throughout the offseason, there have been questions about the Patriots' quarterback room behind Drake Maye for various reasons. Some analysts and fans were intrigued by the addition of veteran Joshua Dobbs, while others weren't sure about the value he brought to the roster or Maye's development. The same could be said about Ben Wooldridge, but he was released not long after his lackluster performance against the Giants last week in the preseason finale.
He missed nearly a month due to that injury, and after being activated in early July he hit just .200/.290/.365 over 31 games before heading back to the IL due to his ailing hand. Chapman received a cortisone shot during this latest stint on the shelf, and both he and the Giants are surely hoping he'll be able to hit more like his first half self (.243/.360/.452 in 65 games) going forward.
The Astros announced that right-hander has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. The 40-man roster had a vacancy from Tayler Scott being designated for assignment earlier this week, but it is now full. Houston also announced that outfielder Taylor Trammell has been placed on the 10-day IL due to a cervical muscle strain, with infielder Brice Matthews recalled as the corresponding move. More to come.
