The Chicago White Sox have placed left-handed pitcher Martin Perez on the 15-day injured list following an elbow inflammation that forced him to exit a recent game. Manager Will Venable expressed the team's need for Perez, highlighting his contributions both on the field and in the clubhouse. In Perez's absence, the team recalled Jared Shuster, who has shown success in Triple-A with a stellar ERA. Perez's current season performance includes a 3.15 ERA across four starts, illustrating his value to the team's pitching rotation.
"We need Martin," White Sox manager Will Venable said Friday night. "We need the things that he does on the mound, the things that he does in the clubhouse."
Perez, 34, is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts this season, his first with the team since signing a one-year, $5 million contract.
Shuster, 26, is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in six relief appearances with Charlotte this season. He has gone 6-8 with a 4.93 ERA in 50 career games.
A first-time All-Star in 2022 with Texas, Perez is 91-88 with a 4.43 ERA in 318 career games (273 starts) with various teams.
