Less than a year after its opening, the Melrose restaurant, the Benjamin, has expanded with the introduction of Bar Benjamin, converting a former cocktail bar space. Founded by Ben Shenassafar, Kate Burr, and Jared Meisler, Bar Benjamin will offer inventive cocktails and bar bites, drawing inspiration from global bar experiences. With architectural designs that echo mid-century styles, the bar aims to fulfill a specific hospitality need within the neighborhood, complementing the restaurantâs unique dining experience.
The Benjamin is filling a void in the middle of this city for a certain type of restaurant. The goal with upstairs is also to open up a cocktail bar that we feel this city is missing as well.
I put it in Jared's ear within a month of us opening. Throughout summer 2024, the trio flirted with the idea of the expansion, before getting serious about it in September.
