According to the WHO and CDC, while 10.3 million cases of measles were estimated worldwide last year, the increase in fatalities has primarily occurred in areas better health and nutrition provision.
CDC Director Mandy Cohen emphasized, "The number of measles infections are rising around the globe, endangering lives and health," underscoring the urgency for improved vaccination efforts.
Although there was an 8 percent decline in measles-related deaths, it reflects a worrying trend as many unvaccinated children remain vulnerable to this disease.
"The measles vaccine is our best protection against the virus," Cohen stated, noting that achieving a 95 percent vaccination coverage rate is critical to battling outbreaks.
