A recent affidavit reveals significant contract terminations within the CFPB as part of a lawsuit by the National Treasury Employees Union against Russell Vought. Allegations suggest unlawful attempts to disable agency functions, including the cancellation of 174 vendor contracts crucial for various operations. An urgent court hearing is imminent, with a warning from contracting officer Charlie Doe that without a restraining order, major contract terminations could occur swiftly. This situation has raised concerns about the continuity of essential services provided by the CFPB, such as consumer complaint processing, which is widely regarded as vital to public service.
Agency staff were directed to cancel a total of about 174 contracts with vendors, for training of examiners who supervise banks, for handling cybersecurity, and for serving as expert witnesses in litigation.
Doe warns that if there is no order prohibiting the termination to continue, the vast majority of these contracts will be fully terminated within the week.
