Warner Bros. revealed a new teaser for James Gunn's Superman at CinemaCon, featuring familiar characters and additional footage. A notable sequence depicts Krypto, Superman's dog, unwittingly torturing him in a comedic yet darkly disturbing manner. The scene captures Gunn's signature style, mixing tones to challenge audience reactions. David Corenswet's portrayal of a vulnerable Superman intensifies the emotional impact of the moment, arguably more unsettling than traditional villain confrontations. This scene indicates Gunn's intent to present a unique take on the Superman mythos, blending humor and darkness.
Worse, half of it is a grim comedy sequence where Krypto is torturing Superman and doesn’t realize it.
This is pretty classic James Gunn humor, seen throughout The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
David Corenswet's performance as Superman in this scene is certainly designed to provoke sympathetic flinches.
But watching him being hurt by a happy dog who loves him is an extra-cruel moment.
