In order to formulate load balancing for AMR as an Ising problem suitable for annealers, data was gathered using CompReal, a flow solver for the Navier-Stokes equations. The flow solver interfaces with BoxLib, a general software framework for AMR applications designed for massively parallel software.
The test case simulated involves a spherical blast wave with sharp gradients within a thin zone tracking the shock edge through regularly updated mesh positioning. Data is structured in nested hierarchy grids with varying cell numbers and high intra-connectivity.
