Faye Toogood's latest exhibition, Assemblage 7: Lost and Found II, celebrates rediscovery through eleven sculptural works crafted from English oak and Purbeck marble. These pieces blend British craftsmanship and antiquity, showcasing a deep connection to the materials' historical significance. Each piece is carefully sculpted and finished, making use of traditional techniques to reveal hidden beauty. This exhibition marks Toogood's fourth solo presentation at Friedman Benda and introduces her work to an East Coast audience, reflecting her exploration of what is reworked, reclaimed, and reimagined in contemporary design.
The block was a landscape, and I was finding my treasure within this landscape.
I felt like I was revealing something that had always been there. Something almost prehistoric that had been lost to time.
