On Friday, China responded to President Trump's suggestion of working with both China and Russia to reduce nuclear arsenals and military spending. Trump expressed that there is no need for the U.S. to develop new nuclear weapons given its existing stockpile. China highlighted its lesser role in global nuclear capabilities, urging the U.S. and Russia, as the largest nuclear powers, to take initiative in disarmament and set an example for military expenditure cuts. China’s foreign ministry stressed the importance of responsible action by these nations to ensure global security.
Mr. Guo noted that the United States had the largest military budget in the world, and, therefore, should set an example in reducing military expenditure.
As countries with the largest nuclear arsenals, the United States and Russia should earnestly fulfill their special priority responsibilities for nuclear disarmament.
