My sister was found dead. Then I discovered her search history and the online world that had gripped her
Briefly

Adele Zeynep Walton's sister, Aimee, tragically took her life amid struggles with mental health. Walton learned of Aimee's death while camping, leading to painful revelations about Aimee's activities on a pro-suicide forum. These online connections and the information Aimee obtained from the forum contributed to her demise, raising concerns over the influence of such platforms. Investigations are ongoing regarding the site's role in multiple deaths, highlighting the urgent need for oversight in online spaces related to mental health and suicide.
Aimee had spent time on a pro-suicide forum that the Guardian has chosen not to name. The site has been connected to at least 50 deaths in the UK, and is now being investigated by the regulator Ofcom under the Online Safety Act.
For two months, we didn't know where she was, what she was doing, Walton says. In the New Forest, on that morning in October 2022, Walton found out the awful truth: Aimee had been found dead in a hotel room in Slough, Berkshire.
