The coldest air of the season is set to arrive this weekend, bringing subfreezing temperatures and a snow blanket to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Sunday.
This cold air, originating from the Arctic, will drastically drop temperatures by 30 to 40 degrees across the country, starting in the Upper Midwest.
Meteorologist Alex Lamers indicates that while January temperatures can be cold, this upcoming weather pattern is likely to be unusually severe.
A storm system could intensify the winter weather, with predictions of three to six inches of snow from D.C. to Boston.
