Parents to receive first payments for 'Newborn Baby Grant' this week

Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary TD, announced the Newborn Baby Grant for over 4,400 families, aiding 4,522 newborns. Effective for all children born on or after December 1, 2024, who qualify for Child Benefit, the €280 grant supports parents financially. In total, 54,000 children are expected to benefit in a year, totaling a cost of €15 million. The grant simplifies support as it is paid automatically alongside the initial Child Benefit, ensuring families don’t need to apply separately.

I am delighted that this week will see the rolling out of the first of the Newborn Baby Grants that were announced as part of Budget 2025.

These payments will help parents by putting extra money in their pockets at a joyful but costly time for families.
