Project Greenwood, unveiled by lawyer Damario Solomon-Simmons, aims to restore Tulsa's Greenwood district and provide reparations for the last two survivors of the 1921 Race Massacre and their descendants. The initiative seeks not only financial redress but also to promote healing in the city, which has long been overshadowed by the tragedy. Survivors Lessie Benningfield Randle and Viola Ford Fletcher are prioritized in this report, emphasizing their urgent desire for justice before they pass away and the commitment of the community to rectify historical wrongs.
The project provides survivors and the descendants a tangible benefit to move forward – it's something we have needed for 104 years, said Mr. Solomon-Simmons.
The plan calls for several forms of financial redress, but the priority is reparations for Lessie Benningfield Randle and Viola Ford Fletcher.
