Kevin Misher reflects, "The deals that sustained you—they were a paycheck. They allowed you to make a basic wage while waiting for a payout. Without that, it’s hard."
Misher states that the changing economics have made it tougher for producers, explaining, "It has also hollowed out the field's middle tier and made it almost impossible for young people to enter the profession."
He points out the exclusionary nature of the current landscape: "It starts to self-select for people who come in already with money — the perspective gets narrower, it isn’t as innovative or diverse."
