Oakland's party restaurant' reinvents itself as affordable, family-oriented dining
Briefly

The now-closed Daytrip restaurant, known for its vibrant atmosphere, has been revamped into Daytrip Counter, a family-centric venue set to open in May. Owners Finn Stern and Stella Dennig closed Daytrip due to financial struggles but are excited about the new concept which features an affordable menu centered on spit-roasted chicken, salads, and sandwiches. The shift to a counter service model and reduced staffing aims to enhance sustainability while ensuring fair wages for employees, marking a significant evolution in the restaurant's direction and business model.
Closing Daytrip was really sad and at the same time kind of welcomed, Stern said. As soon as we closed, I think we both saw that we were left with relief, mainly because we had something really exciting that we were cooking up.
We're doing everything we can, starting from a systems level at every point, to make this a good business.
The cost really ran away from us at Daytrip, said Stern. We're doing everything we can, starting from a systems level at every point, to make this a good business.
