"The elephants were surprised by Dosio and his guide's presence, leading to the tragic encounter that resulted in Dosio's death."
Ernie Dosio, a 75-year-old millionaire and big-game hunter, died in Gabon after being crushed by elephants while hunting yellow-backed duiker. The incident occurred in the Lope-Okanda rainforest when Dosio and his guide encountered five female elephants and a calf. Dosio was known for his extensive collection of hunting trophies and was a familiar name in the Sacramento Safari Club. His guide sustained serious injuries. The US embassy is coordinating the return of Dosio's remains to California.
