Microsoft will halt new Office features for Windows 10 in 2026

Microsoft will cease adding new features to Office apps (Microsoft 365) for Windows 10 users starting August 2026. Security updates will continue until October 2028. This affects Microsoft 365 Personal and Family users as well as business users. Monthly enterprise channel users will lose new feature support on October 13th, 2026, followed by semi-annual users on January 12th, 2027. Microsoft had to reverse its stance on security updates earlier in the year. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 to access new features.

Consumers can extend security updates support for another year free of charge if willing to enable Windows Backup, amidst millions still using Windows 10.
